Omis-center of the Omis Riviera

Welcome

Omis is the tourist centre of a 35 km long Riviera of outstanding beauty. Numerous monuments from its past are the witnesses of its history, long and glorious; besides these, one can find an interesting and colourful market place, a large number of small restaurants, coffee shops, bistros, various shops including duty free ones and fashionable boutiques. All these will make your stay pleasant and fulfilled. Very good communication with the nearby Split and beautiful natural beaches...

In the past Omis was notorious because of the pirates of Omis, whose ships were a centuries-long symbol of retaliation, courage and strength. The evidence of the proud and turbulent Omis history can be found on every corner of the Omis Riviera. The ancient town of Omis, Omis churches and Omis fortresses are silent stone reminders of the power and the might of the infamous Omis pirates. Important historic monuments in Omis are the Church of St. Peter in the 10th century, the fortress Mirabella from 13th century, the fortress Fortica from the 15th century, the Church of the Holy Spirit from 15th century and the Franciscan monastery from the 18th century.

Omis is famous for its Festival of Dalmatian "Klapa". Established in 1967, it soon became the central meeting place of Dalmatia's musical heritage and has grown into a cultural institution of great importance and reputation. It refers to five-to-eight member ensembles. Its basic characteristic and distinction are, and remain, solely vocal harmony-singing, only rarely discreetly and quietly accompanied by instruments.

Without any doubt, the Cetina river and its canyon are one of the most beautiful places in Croatia to visit. It is navigable for rafting from its mouth to Radmanove Mlinice (7 km), a favourite spot for outings and recreation. The river is clear and tranquil as it passes through its high canyon. The mouth of the Cetina River opens into the sea at Omis, a fantastic setting for a town.
