Makarska-nature park "Biokovo"

Welcome

This attractive town and port is the centre of the Makarska Riviera that is 50 km of coastal area in the foothills of Mt. Biokovo. A lot of cliffs and ridges form an impressive backdrop for many beautiful beaches. The base of the town is protected from harsh winds and covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation - pine forests, olive groves, fig trees and orchards. With plenty of hiking and summer opportunities in such a spectacular natural environment, it is not surprising that tourism has a long history. Makarska is the largest city in the region and makes a good base for exploring the coast and the mountain slope.

The mountain Biokovo is the largest and highest mountain in Dalmatia. It extends vertically from the Adriatic coast to an altitude of 1762 m (peak Sv. Jure). By nice weather you can see all the islands (Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Vis, Mljet), the peninsula Peljesac, some of the cities on the southern Dalmatian coast (Omis, Split), and the northern cities Vrgorac and Imotski with the surrounding villages. Sometimes, in very clear weather, one can see all the way to Italy. Biokovo is a mountain that can be visited by car, by bicycle and on foot from various parts of the Adriatic coast and Makarska Riviera.

Nightlife in Makarska is special story. You don`t need to spend a lot of time finding a good place for a party, because Makarska is just a Dalmatian city where nightlife is in town centre. The nightlife happens in one street - Listun street (pedestrian zone). There are a lot of bars and clubs with different types of music. All events are in open air on the street. Close to the Listun Street near Makarska port, there are two most popular disco clubs which work all night. If you ask somebody "What is nightlife in Makarska like?" they will not lie to you if  they say " It is the mecca of nightlife" .
